Joseph Lieberman
Joseph Lieberman (1942–2024) was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut who served from 1989 to 2013. A Yale-educated attorney, he began his political career in the Connecticut State Senate and later became the state’s Attorney General. Originally a Democrat, Lieberman ran as an Independent after losing his party’s primary in 2006. He was the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate on a major party ticket. Known for his centrist views, he championed national security, civil rights, and bipartisan cooperation. After retiring, he remained active in public service and education until his passing in March 2024.
